If you ever need legal services or a lawyer, you want to work with people that you can trust, are open and transparent, honest, and easy to work with.
Make sure to do your research online before you agree to a lawyer or a law firm, and make sure there are no hidden costs.
The following are generic legal counsel we would like to recommend.
- Determine what kind of help you need. If you are in an accident, looking to sue for malpractice, or just need help drafting a contract, ensure you find a lawyer that has the background in what you’re looking for.
- Get a quote from as many different lawyers as possible before committing to paying. This will allow you to see the pros and cons of each lawyer, and seek which lawyers are more likely to help you with your case. Lawyers will differ among each other. Some may be more friendly than others, cooperative, wiser, or even just more or less responsiveness.
- Ask for references, and seek reviews online. Anyone trying to sell you something will always highlight positive traits about themselves, so you want to go into it with skepticism. Look up their name. Keep in mind their real name vs. their nick names. Read reviews, BBB references about them. You might uncover something negative and this can help prevent you from a costly engagement. It can be hard at times to get back your money once you get the process started; as they are lawyers after all.
Be careful of hidden fees: Review legal agreements to ensure you understand all fees upfront. You want to get an estimated hourly amount along with fees in order to fully understand the upper bound of what you may have to pay should you decide to hire them. Without this accuracy, they have the liberal freedom to charge you higher than you may expect.
